Open Water Referral Program

Complete the final step of your Open Water certification

FINISH YOUR OPEN WATER REFERRAL IN CABO

The Open Water Referral option is designed for divers who have already started the first part of their certification elsewhere and are ready to complete it in Cabo San Lucas. As a referral student, you arrive having finished the required theory and confined water sessions, and focus here on the open water dives needed to finalize your PADI Open Water certification. This allows you to train in open water conditions, apply your skills under instructor supervision, and graduate as a fully certified diver, able to dive worldwide with a buddy to a maximum depth of 60 feet / 18 meters.

At Breathe Out Baja, Open Water referral dives are conducted as private sessions, allowing the pace to fully adapt to each diver. Before entering the ocean, we review essential skills and equipment to ensure you feel comfortable in the water. Open water dives are structured and controlled, with an emphasis on proper technique, buoyancy, and awareness rather than simply “checking boxes.” Our focus is on quality training and personal attention, creating a calm, supportive learning environment in which divers can complete their certification with a solid foundation.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR REFERRAL DIVES

Referral dives focus on completing the open water portion of your certification in real ocean conditions, following a clear and progressive structure. Training is usually spread over two days, allowing time to adapt, rest, and fully enjoy each dive instead of rushing through requirements. Before entering the water, we review equipment setup, essential skills, and any questions you may have. We also do a brief knowledge check to refresh key concepts and identify anything that may need a quick refresher. This informal session takes about 30 minutes and helps us tailor the in-water training so you start feeling comfortable and well prepared.

In the ocean, dives begin at shallow depths and progress gradually as comfort and control improve. On the first day, dives reach a maximum depth of around 40 feet (12 meters), focusing on buoyancy, trim, and controlled descents and ascents. On the second day, depths may increase up to 60 feet (18 meters), always based on individual readiness. Skills are practiced in real ocean conditions, allowing you to experience a natural learning progression and gain practical confidence with each dive.

WHY TRAIN WITH US

At Breathe Out Baja, we believe learning to dive should feel calm, safe, and enjoyable. That’s why our courses are offered as private experiences, with personalized instruction tailored to each student. This allows you to learn at your own pace while building real confidence underwater. Our approach prioritizes quality over quantity, guided by experienced PADI-certified instructors who value ethical diving practices, ocean respect, and meaningful underwater experiences.
