Sea Lions Tour in La Paz
Snorkel & Diving at Espíritu Santo Island
WHY THIS TRIP STANDS OUT
Join us on our signature tour in La Paz and experience one of the most unforgettable marine adventures in Baja California Sur. Whether you prefer snorkeling or diving, you’ll connect with wildlife like never before—swimming with playful sea lions, exploring colorful reefs, and admiring dramatic desert landscapes where the mountains meet the sea. We operate with small groups and certified guides for a closer, more personal experience. You’re just one click away from one of the best adventures of your life.
SEA LION SEASON AT LOS ISLOTES
Our journey takes you to La Lobera at Los Islotes, home to nearly 400 sea lions, including curious pups. Just an hour and a half from La Paz, this protected area offers encounters throughout the year, with a seasonal closure from June to August to protect breeding behavior. Here, sea lions are famously curious and mischievous: they glide through turquoise water, leap from rocky ledges, and often interact with divers and snorkelers. The result is lively yet respectful moments up close—an unforgettable experience for families, underwater photographers, and anyone who loves marine life.

HOW THE DAY FLOWS
We leave early from Cabo San Lucas on a scenic drive to La Paz. At the marina, we board and give a brief orientation about the plan, how to move in the water, and what to expect. Around Espíritu Santo Island, we look for the calmest spots and coordinate entries with currents and boat traffic. Snorkelers and divers share the water at the same time, always at a relaxed pace; between sessions you’ll have towels, shade, drinks, and snacks on board. After swimming with the sea lions, the rhythm slows. We stop at a remote beach in the archipelago, share a picnic by the water, and enjoy volcanic landscapes and turquoise waters—a perfect balance of action and relaxation.
BONUS WILDLIFE & SEASONAL SURPRISES
On the boat ride from La Paz out to La Lobera (Los Islotes), keep an eye on the water: it’s common to see dolphins porpoising, sea turtles coming up for air, and—depending on the season—whale blows on the horizon. We watch the surface for cues and call them out as we go, so the transit becomes part of the experience rather than just a transfer. Meanwhile, Espíritu Santo puts on a show of its own: copper cliffs, lava domes, and quiet coves where the desert meets the sea—perfect for photos and a few deep breaths before you slip into the water with the sea lions.

It's important to remember that we schedule our sea lion tours at Espíritu Santo based on updated weather forecasts to ensure the best possible experience. However, the Sea of Cortez can bring sudden changes in wind and waves. When conditions don’t allow us to reach Los Islotes, we have an excellent alternative: the San Rafaelito sea lion colony, a bit smaller but just as charming and located very close to the port. Its calm waters are perfect for snorkeling or diving, offering safe and memorable encounters with these playful marine residents in La Paz.
