Whale Watching in Cabo San Lucas

HUMPBACKS AND GRAY WHALES

Ethical, Small-Group Whale Watching in Cabo San Lucas

From December to April, humpback whales gather in the warm Pacific waters of Cabo San Lucas to breed, socialize, and raise their calves. Our 3-hour, small-group whale watching lets us range beyond the busy coastal zones, where encounters are quieter, less crowded, and more natural.

We observe whales calmly and respectfully—never chasing or surrounding—and carry a live hydrophone on board. When whales are vocalizing, we lower it into the water so you can hear their songs in real time. This adds a second sensory layer to the encounter and allows you to experience whale communication as it happens, not just visually but acoustically.

Humpback Whale Season in Cabo San Lucas

During the winter season, the waters of Cabo San Lucas become an active breeding and socializing ground for North Pacific humpback whales. Sightings may include breaching, tail slapping, pectoral fin displays, social groups, and mother-calf pairs resting or traveling near the surface. While wildlife is never guaranteed, Cabo is widely recognized for a high probability of encounters throughout the season due to consistent whale presence along the Pacific coastline and the Sea of Cortez.

Each trip follows whale presence and ocean conditions across the offshore waters of Cabo San Lucas. We scan for blows, surface activity, and seabird cues to locate whales at distance, allowing encounters to develop naturally at the animals’ pace. Because whales move freely through this open environment, no two outings are the same, and observations unfold according to real-time behavior rather than fixed routes.
