Ocean Safari in Cabo San Lucas

Wildlife & Adventure

NATURE IN ITS PUREST FORM

Feel like a true ocean explorer on our Ocean Safari in Cabo San Lucas. Sail from Cabo marina for five hours to discover the region’s incredible marine biodiversity, scanning the horizon for dorsal fins, whale blows, and surface cues that signal activity. Depending on the season, you may encounter migrating mobula rays, playful dolphins, sea lions, sharks, and several cetacean species. Each journey brings you closer to the wild, untouched side of nature.

WHY CABO WATERS ARE SPECIAL

These waters in Cabo San Lucas are special: here, open-ocean routes converge between the Pacific and the Sea of Cortez alongside shifting currents. That dynamic mix fuels nutrient upwellings and steady pelagic movement, shaping a natural corridor where coral heads, current lines, and reef edges focus marine life. It’s why so many species travel this coastline—and why, when seas cooperate and surface cues are abundant, the ocean delivers truly unforgettable moments.

HOW WE RUN THE SAFARI: HYDROPHONE, ROUTE & CONDITIONS

Pod of dolphins at the surface during a Cabo San Lucas marine safari

We carry a marine hydrophone on every safari so you can listen to dolphins and other underwater sounds year-round and, in whale season, the captivating songs of humpbacks—adding a sensory, immersive layer to your experience. We plan each day carefully: we read the ocean in real time (surface slicks, bird lines, current edges), cross-check recent sightings and sea state, and choose whether to explore the Pacific side or the Sea of Cortez. The goal is simple—be in the right place at the right time—with small groups, first-class care, and respectful, ethical encounters guiding every decision.

REAL EXPLORATION — WILD AND UNPREDICTABLE

Because wildlife can never be guaranteed, some days feel quieter than others—but that very uncertainty is part of the magic. Patience, respect, and timing set the stage, and when the ocean delivers, the payoff is unforgettable. Our approach is always animal-first: no chasing, blocking, or crowding, keeping respectful distances and maintaining a low-impact presence so behaviors remain natural. We communicate in real time—when to observe from the boat and when it’s appropriate to slip into the water—so the group moves with the ocean, not against it. Whether you’re watching from the surface or floating quietly alongside, the day unfolds in tune with the sea: reading signs together, learning, and savoring the search. That way, every safari feels meaningful—no matter how many species appear.

It’s important to remember that at Breathe Out Baja, your safety and the protection of marine wildlife are always top priorities. Under Mexican Official Standard NOM-131-SEMARNAT-2010, in-water interactions with whales are prohibited, so we observe from the boat, maintain respectful distances, and let their behavior guide the encounter.
