La Ventana Ocean Safari
Swim with Mobula Rays & Marine Megafauna
LA VENTANA: SEA OF CORTEZ HOTSPOT
La Ventana sits on a vibrant stretch of the Sea of Cortez where currents, bait, and pelagic routes converge—turning the area into a natural corridor for marine megafauna and other ocean wildlife. Across the seasons, these waters can reveal sea turtles, dolphins, sea lions, and passing whales, plus headline encounters like migratory mobula rays and occasional oceanic mantas. The mix of coastal reefs and open water keeps the search dynamic and the scenery varied. With its proximity to wilderness and clear blue expanses, La Ventana offers one of Baja California Sur’s most exciting platforms for ocean exploration.
SEASONAL WILDLIFE HIGHLIGHTS
Seasonal changes shape what you may see on the water in La Ventana. From April to June, the Gulf of California / Sea of Cortez hosts some of the world’s largest mobula ray aggregations—thousands, sometimes tens of thousands, leaping at the surface in a signature spectacle of this coastline. More rarely, blue whales may pass through, and depending on the season orcas, humpbacks, and oceanic mantas can appear. We adapt routes using recent reports, local intel, and real-time sea-state reads to maximize opportunities. We work hard and keep expectations realistic: nature writes the script, so sightings are never guaranteed.

DAY ROUTE & HYDROPHONE
We depart from Cabo San Lucas early in the morning toward La Ventana for a 6-hour ocean safari. In open water, we keep an unhurried pace and position ourselves carefully as activity unfolds. Depending on the wildlife, we use our hydrophone to listen to dolphin chatter, sperm-whale clicks, or whale songs according to the season, adding an acoustic and immersive layer to your experience. Between sightings, the route reveals views of Isla Cerralvo: desert headlands, and cobalt horizons. A picnic-style lunch, snacks, and drinks are included for a full-day adventure. Stay curious and attentive — the ocean decides; we explore.
RESPONSIBLE WILDLIFE STANDARDS
Wildlife-first guiding shapes every Breathe Out Baja ocean safari: small groups, quiet and measured approaches, and deliberate spacing that keep animals in control of the encounter. We avoid crowds, never box animals in, and limit time at any single interaction so behavior stays natural and stress-free.

It's important to remember that, under the Official Mexican Standard NOM-131-SEMARNAT-2010, swimming with whales in Mexico is prohibited. We observe these giants from the boat at all times and follow distance and time limits that protect their well-being.
