Your Very First Scuba Experience
You don't need a certification or to be a strong swimmer to try scuba diving in Cabo San Lucas. PADI Discover Scuba Diving is made for people who have never dived: you go with an instructor who stays next to you the whole time. Anyone aged 10 and up can join, so it works well for families.
The dive takes place in the Cabo San Lucas Marine Park, a few minutes from the marina. The reef starts just a few feet down, so you are surrounded by tropical fish from the first minute.

An Introduction to Diving in Cabo San Lucas
We start on shore with a briefing: how the equipment works, the hand signals we use underwater and what you are likely to see.
Then we get in the water somewhere shallow and calm, in conditions similar to a swimming pool, where you breathe underwater for the first time and practice a few basic skills. When you feel ready, we go down slowly for your first real dive, with your PADI instructor by your side from start to finish.

Do I need a certification to try scuba diving in Cabo San Lucas?
No, you don't need any experience or certification to try scuba diving in Cabo. Our Discover Scuba Diving program is designed for complete beginners. You'll breathe underwater for the first time with an instructor by your side the whole way. The program is open to ages 10 and up, and divers under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Is scuba diving safe for beginners?
Yes. Discover Scuba Diving is designed so beginners can try diving safely, under the direct supervision of a certified PADI instructor. Before getting in the water, you'll get a full briefing on the equipment and hand signals, and you'll practice the basic skills in shallow water before your first dive.

Do I need to know how to swim to try scuba diving in Cabo San Lucas?
No, although it helps. What matters most is feeling comfortable and relaxed in the water. You'll wear fins and a buoyancy control device (BCD), and your instructor will guide every movement to keep you safe and steady. Many of our guests are not confident swimmers, and they enjoy the dive just as much.

What if I feel nervous on my first time scuba diving?
It's completely normal to feel a little nervous, especially if you've never breathed underwater before. Your instructor stays right by your side the entire time, from the shallow-water practice to the dive itself, and adjusts the pace to you. If anything feels off, just signal your instructor and we'll slow down.

What is the maximum depth in the Discover Scuba Diving program?
The maximum depth is 40 ft (12 m). We always start in very shallow water to practice, and only go deeper gradually, as long as you feel comfortable and ready.

What is the schedule and duration for Discover Scuba Diving in Cabo San Lucas?
A single dive takes about 2 hours from start to finish. If you add a second dive at another site, the whole experience lasts about 4 hours. We have daily morning and afternoon departures, so you'll have plenty of time to enjoy the rest of your day in Los Cabos.

Will I be cold or struggle with visibility during my first dive?
We provide professional wetsuits to keep you warm and comfortable during the whole experience. We also choose our dive sites in the Cabo San Lucas Marine Park based on each day's conditions, to give you the best visibility and the calmest water possible for your first dive.

What should I bring on the dive boat?
• Swimsuit, sunglasses and a hat or cap • Seasickness medication if you're prone to motion sickness (take it at least one hour before boarding)

Can I fly right after my dive?
No. For safety, wait at least 12 hours after one dive, or 18 hours after two dives, before flying. Please check your flight schedule before booking to make sure you can respect these intervals.

How much does Discover Scuba Diving cost in Cabo San Lucas?
